Washing Machine Leaking Water — Fault Guide

A practical guide from Go Assist Bournemouth engineers.

Why is my washing machine leaking?

Leaks usually come from a perished door seal (drum seal), a blocked pump or filter causing overflow, or a loose connection on the inlet/outlet hoses. Check the door seal for cracks and ensure the filter cap is tightly closed. A persistent leak needs a professional check to avoid floor and electrical damage.

Should you try to repair this yourself?

Basic checks — like cleaning a filter or checking the clock timer — are safe to do yourself. However, repairs involving electrical components, gas connections, motors or sealed systems should always be carried out by a qualified engineer. Attempting these repairs yourself may void your appliance warranty and could be dangerous.
