Tumble Dryer Not Heating — Fault Guide

A practical guide from Go Assist Bournemouth engineers.

Why is my tumble dryer not heating up?

In vented and condenser dryers, a failed heating element, a tripped thermal overload fuse, or a blocked condenser/lint filter are the most common causes. Heat pump dryers may have a refrigerant or compressor issue. Always clean the filter after every load — a blocked filter causes the thermal cut-out to trip.

Should you try to repair this yourself?

Basic checks — like cleaning a filter or checking the clock timer — are safe to do yourself. However, repairs involving electrical components, gas connections, motors or sealed systems should always be carried out by a qualified engineer. Attempting these repairs yourself may void your appliance warranty and could be dangerous.
