Why is my freezer icing up excessively?

Excessive ice build-up in a frost-free freezer usually means the defrost heater, defrost thermostat or defrost timer has failed. Manual defrost freezers ice up when the door seal is cracked or the freezer is overpacked. Allow the freezer to defrost manually then test again — if icing returns quickly, call an engineer.

Basic checks — like cleaning a filter or checking the clock timer — are safe to do yourself.
